Southside Film Festival a success!

We had a great turnout at the screenings of Reserved To Fight during the Southside Film Festival in Pennsylvania. Veteran Drew Brown, a native Pennsylvania resident came to answer questions from the viewers. We had a great question answer session and a great response from viewers after the festival was over.

Opportunity to Get Involved!

We at MirrorLake Films are seeking your help. We have teamed up with the Integrative Health Network (IHN), to organize a community event which assists in supporting returning veterans. Currently, we are looking for community members such as yourself to sponsor this event. We are requesting your help through donations of funds, or directing us to donors who will support this cause. This is a very critical event which needs your support. PLEASE take a minute to think of how you can participate either through financial contributions or if you know of anyone that would like to be a part of changing the way our community supports their soldiers.

It is with your support that we are able to continue to educate our community here in Utah and nationwide, so please take a minute to help. Share this email with anyone you may know who would like to participate in this event. All donations will be tax-deductible through IHN. Here is more information about the event and how to get involved:

As community awareness increases concerning the welfare of returning soldiers and their families, the Integrative Health Network (IHN) has organized programs and events in support of soldiers and the assistance they deserve. One such event will be a meeting and press conference planned to bring together those already participating in this monumental effort.

The IHN Board of Directors and 2008 Projects Steering Committee are contacting those who would like to either assist or contribute to the work being done. By combining forces, the voice of support can be heard by a greater audience and be more effective in creating wellbeing for the soldiers and their families.

Event: "Now Is The Time" Community Support for Soldiers and Their Families
Date: April 29th, 2008
Time: 7pm
Location: Salt Lake Art Center (located next to Symphony Hall).

Featured in the Program will be MirrorLake Films, a team of local filmmakers who made the PBS documentary Reserved To Fight ( www.reservedtofight.com). They are adjacently raising funds for their outreach program which will educate not only our local community, but nationwide.

Please contact Chantelle Squires at chantellesquires@gmail.com or (801) 602-9667 to find out how to contribute and be a part of this committee.

Thank you for your time and help.

Cast/Crew screening

We started Reserved To Fight five years ago a week after Fox Company 2/23 returned home from Operation Iraqi Freedom. We began documenting the stories of the marines in Fox Company and the longer we filmed their journey of coming home, the more important we felt it was to share their stories. Along the way, we were picked up by ITVS (a PBS affiliate) which helped us complete the film. Paul Reickhoff with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America also jumped on board to help us finish the film, raise awareness and take action. We are so excited that it is finally finished, and we are so grateful for everyone who helped to make this film possible, especially the veterans who shared their lives with us and the world. We are now awaiting a premiere at a film festival, but on Tuesday, we had a private friends/family/cast/crew screening, and it was so great to see a full house and such a positive response. Thanks to everyone who came and showed their support. It was so wonderful to see so many people as passionate about helping veterans as we are. We have started an outreach campaign to raise awareness with our film, and we are trying to raise money, so if you know anyone who would be interested, or if you are please pass this on and email us at info@reservedtofight.com.

One of my favorite moments of the night was when someone from the audience came up to one of the marines in the film after the screening was over and through tears expressed how grateful she was for the film. She told him that finally she was able to understand her father who landed on the beaches of Normandy in WWII that through his whole life never talked about his experiences. But after seeing the film, she finally felt like she understood him. I can't wait for everyone to get a chance to see this film.
